Disadvantages and Risks
MRI is generally considered safe when proper safety procedures are followed, but it has some limitations. The powerful magnetic field can be dangerous for certain metal objects and some implanted medical devices. Some patients may also feel uncomfortable because the scanner is enclosed and makes loud noises. In some examinations, a gadolinium contrast agent may be used, which carries a small risk of an allergic reaction and requires special consideration in people with serious kidney disease.
